A Catholic Prayer of Complete Surrender, Protection, and Faith

A complete act of surrender — placing one’s past, present, and future into the Father’s hands, with petitions for a clean heart, protection over family and work, discernment in relationships, and the intercession of Our Lady, Saint Joseph, and Saint Michael — offered in the refrain “Jesus, I trust in You.”

A crucifix lit from behind against a warm glow.
PrayersDr. David T. Randolph

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Most Holy and Eternal Father, Almighty God, Creator of Heaven and Earth, I come before You with humility, reverence, gratitude, and complete dependence upon Your mercy.

You are my God. You are my Creator. You are my refuge and my strength. You are the source of every blessing I have ever received and every good thing that is yet to come.

Father, I acknowledge that without You I can do nothing. Every breath I take is a gift from Your hand. Every opportunity, every accomplishment, every lesson, every relationship, and every moment of my life exists under Your providence.

Today, I place my entire life before You.

I surrender to You my past, my present, and my future. I surrender my successes and disappointments, my hopes and concerns, my work and responsibilities, my relationships, my plans, my reputation, my possessions, and every decision that lies before me.

Lord, take complete possession of my life.

Where I have sinned, forgive me. Where I have been prideful, humble me. Where I have been impatient, teach me patience. Where I have spoken without charity, purify my words. Where resentment has entered my heart, replace it with mercy. Where fear has troubled me, strengthen my faith.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew within me a steadfast spirit.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, I place myself at the foot of Your Holy Cross.

You suffered for me. You shed Your Precious Blood for me. You died for me. You rose from the dead so that sin and death would never have the final word.

Jesus, I trust in You.

When I understand what You are doing, I trust You. When I do not understand, I trust You. When doors open, I trust You. When doors close, I trust You. When prayers are answered quickly, I trust You. When I must wait, I trust You.

Do not permit temporary disappointment to weaken eternal faith.

If something I desire is not according to Your will, remove my attachment to it. If something is truly meant for me, give me the patience to receive it according to Your timing. If a door should remain closed, give me the grace to walk away peacefully. If You open a new door, give me the courage to enter it faithfully.

Not my will, Lord, but Yours be done.

Holy Spirit, Divine Counselor and Sanctifier, descend upon me anew.

Fill my mind with wisdom. Fill my heart with charity. Fill my words with truth. Fill my decisions with discernment. Fill my work with integrity. Fill my home with peace.

Give me the wisdom to recognize what comes from God and what does not.

Protect me from deception, manipulation, temptation, confusion, pride, bitterness, envy, anger, and discouragement.

When I must speak, give me the right words. When silence is wiser, give me restraint. When I must act, give me courage. When I must wait, give me patience. When I must forgive, give me mercy. When I must walk away, give me peace.

Father, I ask Your protection over my family and all whom You have entrusted to my care.

Place Your holy angels around our home.

Protect us from spiritual and physical harm. Guard our coming and going. Preserve our health, our livelihood, our faith, our peace, and our love for one another.

May Christ always remain at the center of our home.

Bless my work, Lord.

May every professional responsibility entrusted to me be carried out with honesty, discipline, excellence, wisdom, and service.

Never allow ambition to become greater than virtue. Never allow recognition to become more important than righteousness. Never allow accomplishment to separate me from humility.

If You grant me influence, let me use it for good. If You grant me leadership, let me lead through service. If You grant me knowledge, let me use it to help others. If You grant me prosperity, make me generous. If You grant me recognition, let all glory ultimately return to You.

Father, bless every place where You have called me to serve.

Give me the heart of a servant rather than the desire for status. Let me recognize Christ in the poor, the lonely, the forgotten, the elderly, the sick, the vulnerable, the unborn, the suffering, and all whose dignity is threatened.

Give me courage to defend truth without hatred, to practice charity without weakness, and to stand for what is right without losing compassion.

Teach me that genuine leadership begins with service.

Lord, I also surrender my relationships to You.

Bring into my life people who encourage faith, wisdom, integrity, peace, and goodness.

Remove from my path relationships that would lead me away from You.

Give me discernment to know the difference between those I am called to love, those I am called to help, those I am called to forgive, and those from whom I may wisely maintain distance. Keep bitterness from taking root within me.

I refuse to allow the actions of another person to determine the condition of my soul.

I choose forgiveness. I choose peace. I choose charity. I choose Christ.

Bless those who have encouraged me. Bless those who have helped me. Bless those who have prayed for me.

And, Lord, bless even those who have misunderstood, disappointed, rejected, or wounded me.

I place them into Your hands.

I release every grievance to Your justice and mercy.

I will not carry what belongs to You.

Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and my spiritual Mother, draw me closer to Your Son. Cover me beneath Your maternal mantle.

When I am discouraged, remind me to trust. When I am uncertain, teach me to ponder God’s will in my heart. When I suffer, lead me to the Cross. When I experience joy, teach me to proclaim the greatness of the Lord.

Mary, conceived without sin, pray for me.

Saint Joseph, faithful guardian of Jesus and Mary, pray for me.

Teach me humility, courage, responsibility, purity of heart, and quiet obedience to God.

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend me in battle.

Protect me against the wickedness and snares of the devil. By the power of God, guard me and all those whom I love from evil.

All holy angels and saints of God, pray for me.

Father, I pray also for Your Holy Catholic Church.

Protect our Holy Father, our bishops, priests, deacons, religious, seminarians, missionaries, and lay faithful.

Strengthen persecuted Christians throughout the world.

Bring those who have wandered from the Church home again.

Call sinners to repentance. Comfort those who mourn. Heal wounded families. Strengthen marriages. Protect children. Defend the dignity of human life. Give courage to those who are afraid to profess their faith.

And raise a new generation of saints who will proclaim Jesus Christ without fear.

Lord, prepare me also for eternity.

Never allow the distractions of this world to make me forget that my ultimate destination is not earthly success but eternal life with You.

When my earthly journey eventually reaches its end, may I be able to say that I remained faithful, that I loved, that I served, that I forgave, that I persevered, and that I placed my trust in Jesus Christ.

Until that day, give me strength for each morning, wisdom for each decision, patience for each difficulty, gratitude for each blessing, courage for each challenge, and faith for every unknown road ahead.

I do not ask for a life without trials. I ask for faith strong enough to endure them. I do not ask to understand everything. I ask for grace sufficient to trust You. I do not ask that every person understand me. I ask that my life be pleasing to You. I do not ask for worldly approval. I ask for the courage to remain faithful. And I do not ask merely for success. I ask for holiness.

Jesus, I trust in You.

Jesus, when I am strong, keep me humble. Jesus, when I am weak, carry me. Jesus, when I am uncertain, guide me. Jesus, when I am troubled, calm me. Jesus, when I am blessed, make me grateful. Jesus, when I fall, raise me. Jesus, when I succeed, keep my eyes upon You.

Jesus, never allow me to become separated from You.

Father, into Your hands I place everything.

My life belongs to You. My future belongs to You. My family belongs to You. My work belongs to You. My hopes belong to You. My unanswered questions belong to You.

Everything I have and everything I am comes from You.

Lead me where You desire me to go. Close every door that is contrary to Your will. Open every door that serves Your purpose. Give me the courage to accept both.

And whatever tomorrow may bring, grant me the grace to proclaim with unwavering faith:

God is with me. Christ is before me. The Holy Spirit is within me. The Blessed Mother is praying for me. Heaven is my destination. And the will of God shall be my peace.

I ask all of this through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.

Amen.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for me. Saint Joseph, pray for me. Saint Michael the Archangel, defend me. All you holy angels and saints, pray for me.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.
